Are You on Center Stage or The Sidelines?

The Super Committee super failed. The Occupy Wall Streeters are getting beaten down and thrown around. The jobs are drying up like water in the desert. Kids in California are getting hosed down with pepper spray like you spray your kids with the hose in summer. It goes on and on. If you get caught up in it it’s enough to make you want to lock yourself in the house. What should you do? There’s nothing you can do right? How could one person make a difference? Your right, you should just lay down and take it. Or should you?

One of the greatest thing about this country is one of the biggest things we have forgotten. At least, we act like we have. The ability to be free, to assemble, to speak out, and raise our voices is one of the greatest freedoms we will ever have. Yet you sit there on your couch watching the news and shaking your head. This isn’t the America we envisioned when we were young. Why not do something about it? Who me? Yeah you! Things don’t change by not doing anything about them. Insanity isn’t doing things people have never seen or heard before. Insanity is doing the same thing everyday and expecting a different result. How long have your friends, family, and you stood on the sidelines waiting for things to change?

Stop waiting!!!!!!!!!! If you want your world, community, life, and you to change go do it. Be the change you are looking for in this world. If you don’t like the politicians in your city stand up and let them know. If you don’t like the person you see in the mirror then go change it. I recently had a friend come back in my life who is amazing. She’s even more amazing because she refused to be a bystander in her life. Are you one in your own life? Are your kids not growing up the way you want? Is your love life not where you want it? Stop taking what they’re giving. Imagine a world without the people who stood up in it. Where would we be? Not better off is a good start, actually it’s a terrible start. Some say nothing is worse than living a life full of regret. I agree wholeheartedly with them.

What if Gandhi decided to take whatever the British government offered? What if Dr. Martin Luther King decided that going along with desegregation was easier than standing up and getting arrested? What if Mother Teresa decided the sick and needy could wait for the next person to come by? What if George Washington decided it would be better to be ruled by a leader who a nation never saw? What if Winston Churchill decided to surrender to Adolf Hitler’s Nazi instead of standing defiant in the face of tyranny? What if Harriet Tubman figured some one else would come along and help free the slaves? What if……… you started tomorrow like it was your last day. What would do different? What if you woke up and realized you had the power to change your life, community, and world like no one else before? Would you? What would you change? How would you make it better? What are you waiting for? Go and be the change you need in your life. I guarantee when you do, you will be the change someone has been hoping for in their life as well.
